Millennials, The most selfish generation (give glory to Him)

Millennials, The most selfish generation

Give glory to Him - The three angels' message _ Part 2

According to the study published March 5 in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, the millennial generation (from around 1980s to 2000) also known as "generation Y" is the most selfish, self-centered, materialistic generation. And that shouldn't surprise us, you can see it in your community also. Many news sites had reported about this, like: , Huffington post, world science, and many other sites like the Toronto Sun which reported:

U.S. youth more selfish than previous generations

Americans born in the '80s and '90s are more selfish and greedy than the baby boomers and Generation Xers who came before them, new research suggests.
"These data show that recent generations are less likely to embrace community mindedness and are focusing more on money, image and fame."

Wow, that is very sad to know, but, how did that happen ? Did it happen by chance, or is there something behind it ? Well, take a look at what The National Review Online wrote about this:

Welfare State and the Selfish Society
Capitalism teaches people to work harder; the welfare state teaches people to want harder. Which is better?... Whatever its intentions, the entitlement state produces far more selfish people - and therefore a far more selfish society - than a free-market economy. And we have little evidence that this widespread selfishness can be undone once it catches on.

In this article written by Dennis Prager, it says that socialism and a "welfare state" is one reason for a 'selfish society'.  So in other words, the kind of government and the way of living of the state is what he is talking about.
Obviously, this is not an reason to excuse or behavior, we are responsible for what we do, no matter what, specially if your are a follower of Jesus. But we can't deny that the devil does anything he can to influence us. And since we are on that subject, take a look at this news report:

DHS Enlists Citizen Spies Via New Smartphone App (infowars.com)
Homeland Security officials in Delaware are hoping to enlist citizens as spies for the state by encouraging them to use a new app which allows smartphone users to attach pictures of “suspicious” vehicles or persons and send them directly to the federal government....

History clearly tells us that using citizens to inform on their fellow countrymen does not make a nation safer and only serves to breed distrust and suspicion amongst a host population.
As Robert Gellately of Florida State University has highlighted, Germans under Hitler denounced their neighbors and friends not because they genuinely believed them to be a security threat, but because they expected to selfishly benefit from doing so, both financially, socially and psychologically via a pavlovian need to be rewarded by their masters for their obedience.
Having the state encourage citizens to report "suspicious activity" is not only un-American, it represents a direct attack on the idea that a law abiding citizen can go about their business without the onerous psychological pressure of knowing that their every behavior could be analyzed and misinterpreted by a fellow citizen.

Now, isn't that a cunning move ? Can you see how the devil is trying to erase christian characters from the people ?
Or what about this news article ?

Lifeguard Fired in Florida for Saving a Life (people magazine)
After tending to the man, who was taken to hospital with water in his lungs, Lopez filled out an incident report, and was fired for leaving the protected area of the beach.

or this other one...

Off duty lifeguard saves boy, gets a $2600 bill for the ambulance (Mac Resource)
The off-duty lifeguard who jumped into the water in Vancouver, Wash., and saved a drowning 12-year-old, then received a $2,600 ambulance bill because paramedics wanted him checked for hypothermia.

Isn't this just unbelievable ? Do you see how people are force to be a selfish neighbor ? This few articles clearly show how the government, policies, even smartphone applications are pushing people to be selfish, turning away from a friendly christian behavior.

This is the continuation of the three angels' message. Recently I wrote about what it means to fear God, according to the Bible. We saw that this is a very important message, because it will prepare the last generation to meet their savior Jesus Christ.
Did God know this generation would be a selfish one, self-centered ? Did God foresee that the last generation was going to be "forced" to turn away from a Christian character ? Yes, of course, and this last message addresses this issue.

Revelation 14:7  Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

Here is again this so important message and now, let us focus on God's next command.
We saw that He want us to fear Him, but now He is also asking us to "give glory to Him".
Well, what does that mean ? Can you give glory to Him ?
Do you have any glory to give Him ? Where can you get glory ?
Well I don't think anyone here can say they have any glory.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God

So the glory should come from God himself because He is full of glory our glory is only in Him
Psalms 62:7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
And when we receive it, then we can give it back to Him. That is the only way.

So then we need to know what is the glory of God. Let's look in His word and see what it is.
Let's review this incident in the life of Moses, when he asked God to see His glory.
Exodus 33:17 Yahweh said to Moses, "I will do this thing also that you have spoken; for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name."
18 He said, "Please show me your glory."
Now pay attention of how God answers Moses' request...
19 He said, "I will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of Yahweh before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy."
20 He said, "You cannot see my face, for man may not see me and live."

So Moses asked God to show him His glory and God says He will make His goodness pass before him, and that He will be gracious and merciful.

And notice the next verses in chapter
34:5 Yahweh descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of Yahweh. 6 Yahweh passed by before him, and proclaimed, "Yahweh! Yahweh, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth
7 keeping loving kindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and disobedience and sin; and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the children's children, on the third and on the fourth generation."
8 Moses hurried and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped.

Wow, if that isn't a description of God's character, I don't know what is.
In the old testament, names had a meaning, and it would reflect the character of the person. That is why God changed peoples' names very often. Because their lives had changed. For that reason God also proclaimed His holy name, because His glory is His character.

John wrote something similar, talking about Jesus, in
John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

He writes: 'we saw His glory', grace and truth, in Jesus who came from the Father. But how did we see that glory ? How did Jesus revealed His glory ? Well, john also wrote in
John 2:11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

So the signs and miracles of Jesus revealed His glory. And all His miracles reflected love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, which constitute the character of God the Father. In one of the greatest miracles of Jesus we can see something very similar
John 11:4 When he heard this, Jesus said, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it."
In this miracle Jesus revealed the glory of God, reflecting His character of love and mercy, as the giver of life.

Ok then, what have we reviewed so far ?
- Well, we have no glory (Romans 3:23)
- God has all the glory, (Psalms 62:7)because He is the only source of love, mercy, grace, forgiveness.
- The glory of God is His character.

So now, that we know this, we can answer our previous question. How do I give glory to Him ?
Well, Matthew gives us the answer
Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

How can our Father in heaven be glorified ? By reflecting God's character to others: love, mercy, forgiveness, justice, patience, good deeds and there is something else that we can do to glorify God. And this is very interesting and important also.
1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

We have seen already how we glorify God in our spirit. But Paul here writes that we have to glorify God also in our bodies. That means our health, and to confirm this, Paul also wrote in
1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

So the way we treat our bodies also gives glory to God ! What we eat, what we drink, what we do to our health glorifies God. Why ? Well because we all know that what we consume affects our body and mind, and therefore our spirit too. We need to remember and understand what Paul wrote, "we are not our own" we were bought with a price: the blood of Jesus Christ, our body and spirit belongs to Him.
That is why this message fits perfectly in our generation. God knew that in the end times the devil was going to try to ruin our health with food and drinks, also with drugs. And God fore seeing this, gave us this message calling us back to a healthy living.
That's why I wrote articles on health and food like, Shocking FACTS about Coke, Pepsi and other sodas, The battle of water, GMO fake foods, Dramatic growth in diseases and disabilities and many others that I still want to write, to expose the traps that satan puts in our ways. The main causes of death are all connected to food, to our diet: heart diseases, cancer, obesity, diabetes, and of course alcohol and drugs, etc.

Revelations 14:7 clearly says that in the end times, God's people will glorify God in their bodies and in spirit. Do you see how crucial this message is ? It will prepare us to meet a holy God.

And as I finish this article, let me share with you one of my favorite bible verses, that will help you understand (as it has helped me), how we can achieve this goal.
2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit.

Wow, I just love this verse, by beholding His glory, by contemplating His character, by looking at God as in a mirror,  we will be transformed to His image. Here is the secret ! The only way that we can give glory to Him, is by spending time beholding Him. By studying His holy word, by spending time praying, we will reflect the glory of God. Because to "give glory to Him", is to reflect God's character in our bodies and in spirit.

It is my prayer that each one of us, as the last generation of the end times, by contemplating God everyday, will be transformed by the Holy Spirit and will reflect His character to others, so we can be ready to meet our holy and awesome savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
