Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said, “This Man is calling for Elijah!” Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink.
The rest said, “Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to save Him.”
And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. (Matthew 27:45-50)
A Friday like today, Jesus was being beaten and humiliated. He had chosen to drink the cup of agony for you and me. Throughout the day, even before day light, he was taken back and forth until finally, he was sentenced to death. Before sabbath began, he was nail to the cross like a criminal.
There, hanging on the cross, even though his physical
pain was immense, his greatest agony was caused by the weight of the sins of
every sinner that ever lived. From the sins of Eve, Adam and Cain, to the last
sinner that has not been born yet. Lies, robberies, adultery, murder and
everything in between he had to take the punishment of everyone of those sins.
Therefore, he got to the point of feeling abandoned by his Father. The presence
that he had felt since he was a baby, had disappeared. Demons surrounded him,
but with faith in his Holy Father, Jesus commended his spirit to Him, and died.
Oh, how can I thank Him such incomprehensible act of love ? !!! For a person like me ? Nothing I can do or say, can pay Him back . I know I do not deserve it. And for that reason I will give Him the only thing I can. My life ! My heart and my time. All to Him, and to Jesus alone. The devil will not have those things from me anymore !
If you feel the same, you too thank Him, and give Him all you have. Thank you Jesus !
